Washington Monument - Most Visited in World

The Washington Monument is a 555ft/169m tall obelisk built between 1848 and 1884 in honor of the first President of the United States, George Washington Monument . It is the tallest free standing masonry structure in the world.

As early as 1783, when George Washington  Monument was still alive, plans by Pierre Charles l'Enfant for an equestrian statue of Washington were approved by Congress. The plan was never realized so in 1833, at the centennial anniversary of George Washington's birth, James Madison and John Marshall decided to take matters in their own hands and founded the Washington National Monument Society; its purpose was to build a famous monument for George Washington.

The Washington Monument was built to honor George Washington, the commander-in-chief of the Continental Army and the first president of the United States. The structure was designed by Robert Mills, with construction beginning in 1848. Construction was halted from 1854 to 1877, due to the Know Nothing Party’s rise to control of the Washington National Monument Society through an illegal election, lack of funding and the Civil War.It was completed in 1884 by Thomas Casey and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and an elevator was added to the monument in 1889, which shuttles tourists to the top of the monument to this day.

The stone monument to George Washington  Monument did not begin until July 4, 1848 (because of a lack of funds). Work on the monument was stopped in 1854 (when the monument was only 152 feet tall), after donations dropped off. The project was almost abandoned, but work finally began again in 1876 (you can see the slight difference in color of the marble on the bottom third and the upper two-thirds of the monument).

This memorial was dedicated in 1922 to honor President Abraham Lincoln. Thirty-eight Grecian columns surround a statue of Lincoln seated on the ten-foot high marble base. This impressive statue is encompassed by engraved readings from the Gettysburg address, his Second Inaugural address and murals by French painter Jules Guerin.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial was created by architect Maya Ying Lin who said her idea was that “The names would end up being the memorial”. The Vietnam Memorial is situated on the far west end from the National Mall just northeast from the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. The memorial was dedicated in 1982 and honors the United states servicemen and ladies who served within the Vietnam War (1959-1975). The washington monument is most popular in american region and american offers tourists many of monuments and american attractions to visit.

Best Beaches in Phuket For Winter Vacations

Phuket has been one of the best beach destinations in Thailand for over 40 years and has a lot to offer to everyone of any age, any gender, and any taste. I personally have my own favourites for any occasion.

Islands can boast of such an abundance of sandy beaches phuket and clear waters as Phuket. The winding coastal roads along the west coast of this 540-square-km island offer stunning views and easy access to some of the world's finest beaches.Whether one wants to sample the frenetic pace of Patong or find solitude on a remote stretch of sand in the north, Phuket's beaches for tourist attraction have it all for the sun seeker. The monsoon rains of May-October can bring unpredictable swimming conditions, so heed the posted flag warnings.

Patong Beach

Patong Beach, known for being somewhat of a tourist trap, is an excellent choice of beach in phuke for visitors who seek lots of activity. Located in the southwest and shaped like a crescent, Patong’s golden sands and gentle slope make for an excellent bathing beach in Phuke; after a swim, guests can relax on one of the multitude of sun loungers here that rent for about 100 Baht each. Activities abound on Patong Beach; from banana boats to jet skis to parasailing.

Surin Beach

Surin Beach is popular for a good reason, with plenty of dining venues along a large beach phuket blessed with a beautiful sand and an amazing clear blue water. Maybe it is already a bit too popular, with four of even five rows of beach chairs in some parts. But the quality of the water and sand still makes it one of the nicest beaches on the island.

Naiharn Beach

Naiharn Beach remains underdeveloped due to the presence of the temple Wat Naiharn right by the beach phuket. Although Naiharn can get quite crowded, the lack of development actually on the beautiful beach means that it feels quieter. A few restaurants sit behind the expanse of beautiful white sand and at either end of the beach are rocks around which one can snorkel.

Laem Singh Beach

Laem Singh Beach Weather is lousy but you really want to go to the beach today Laem Singh happens to look better in that exact weather. Laem Singh has this tropical touch that goes well with a bit of rain. It's like been in the Caribbean, a bit nostalgic, very green with its palm trees leaning over the sand and you have the beach almost for yourself.

Bangtao Beach

Bangtao is a study in contrasts, with the luxurious resorts and villas along its six km (four mile) stretch of beach just a few minutes' away from the town of Cherng Talay, where many villagers still make their living as their ancestors did - by fishing, farming and rubber tapping. The northern tip of the beach, so far untouched by development, is still an area where visitors might find that they have the beach to themselves.

Top Historical Monuments Of Delhi

Delhi, the capital of India, has a rich history. The city is dotted with spellbinding mosques, forts, and historical monuments left over from the Mughal rulers that once occupied the city. The contrast between rambling Old Delhi and well planned New Delhi is immense, and it's interesting to spend time exploring both. If you feel in need of some relaxation, just head to one of Delhi's flourishing landscaped gardens.

The list and stories of famous historical monuments in Delhi also includes the era before British rule. A number of famous monuments in Delhi are the structural testaments to the reign of the Mughals. The remains of the Qutub complex, comprising the famous Qutub Minar and Iron Pillar also lists as a member of the famous historical monuments at Delhi.

Red Fort

Delhi's most famous monument, the Red Fort, stands as a powerful reminder of the Mughal emperors who ruled India. Its walls, which stretch for over two kilometers (1.2 miles), were built in 1638 to keep out invaders. However, they failed to stop the fort being captured by the Sikhs and the British. To take your imagination back to the ancient era, a one hour sound and light show of the fort's history is held each evening.

Qutab Minar

Qutub Minar is the tallest (73 m-high) brick minaret (Minar) in India, and the oldest historical monument in Delhi. Sometimes I think, this is the most visited tourist place in India if I believe on this report (see report). It is the top visited tourist place in Delhi whenever you come to India for tourism. Generally, it opens all day.

India Gate

A prominent monumental structure of Delhi, the baronial India Gate, built to commemorate the 90,000 Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the First World War was originally known as the all india war memorial. Constructed in 1931, the monument has fantastic inscriptions on its walls containing the names of those soldiers who lost their lives.

Lotus Temple

Lotus Temple is one of the remarkable architectures of Bahai faith. It is located at Kalkaji in New Delhi. The temple looks like a lotus flower and is made of marble, cement, dolomite and sand. The temple has no restrictions for visitors and is open to people from all religions. The design looks like a half opened Lotus flower with 27 freestanding “petals” made of marble. The architect, while designing the temple took into account the eternal beauty of Lotus flower.

Lodi Gardens

Lodi Gardens provides a serene retreat from city life, and is the place to come if you're feeling tired and worn out. The vast Gardens were built by the British in 1936 around the tombs of 15th and 16th century rulers. Joggers, yoga practitioners, and young couples all enjoy this park.
